"A Salute to the Red White & Blue"
Mission Team Stays in Odebolt (condensed from article by Rick
Votrobeck)
The First Presbyterian Church of Odebolt has been
sending out mission teams for years. They have assisted in disaster
clean up and restoration projects in the aftermath of hurricanes,
tornados, and floods. They have constructed a food pantry and provided
much needed maintenance in an inner city church in Kansas City. They
have assisted in remodeling the home of a paraplegic in Parkersburg and
a halfway house in Des Moines. Some members plan their vacations to
include these special trips. This year, however, the church's mission
team never left town. When they learned that one of their own families
had a serious maintenance problem with their home. they volunteered to
stay home and help out in any way they could.
The mission team has consisted of eight to ten workers
each day, some full time and others helping out when they can. The
support team is much larger, with dozens of volunteers providing food
and financial assistance for this project.
The nice thing about working at home is that more
people can participate. In the first four days, twelve people spent time
working onsite and four others assisted with childcare and offsite
support. Two members have coordinated the food and beverages, and their
list of contributors grows each day. A couple whose kitchen is being
remodeled have generously donated their old kitchen cabinets to be used
in the project home.
The team gathers for morning devotions at 7:30 a.m.
each day, just as they do on any other mission trip. Stronger
relationships with each other are built as the team works to assist this
family in need. The Lord said "Do unto others as you would have them do
unto you."
At the end of the day, we are all enriched by the
effort.

JUNE MUSEUM MINUTES--Members of the Odebolt Historical
Museum met on June 23 at 7:00 p.m. with the following members in
attendance – Kathy Larson, Rebecca Ullrich, Mary Schroeder and
Margaret Ann Landgraf.
President Kathy Larson called the meeting to order. The
secretary’s report was approved as read. The treasurer’s report was
presented by Kathy Larson in the absence of treasurer, Renae
Babcock.
Old Business:
- The museum needs several copies of the Odebolt-Arthur yearbooks – 2006,
2007, 2008, 2009. Mary will contact Traci Allen to see about
acquiring some copies.
- The alarm system will be installed the week of June 28th. All
museum members will be given an access code in order to enter the
building after the system is activated.
- The alarm system was made possible through a generous donation by
John Noyd in memory of his aunt, Elaine Raasch. Elaine was an active
and loyal member of the Odebolt Historical Museum for many years.
- The Crystal Clear Window Cleaning Service of Cherokee has been
contacted and will start monthly cleaning of the museum windows.
Mary and Kathy will get the curtains altered and put up in the west
window soon.
New Business:
- Over 200 visitors enjoyed looking through the museum during Creek Days.
Many nice compliments were shared about the way the museum is set
up. It was suggested we purchase tags that museum members could wear
during open houses or tours, so visitors know who to go to for help.
Kathy will look into this matter.
- Several donations have been received since our last meeting.
- A new copier was purchased for the museum, replacing the old copier.
Many individuals request copies of various articles and photos while
doing research at the museum, and the new copier will provide
quality copies for their use.
- The Odebolt Rotary is once again generously offering to host a Steak Fry
with the proceeds going to the Odebolt Historical Museum.
- The next meeting of the Odebolt Historical Museum will be July 28 at
7:00 pm. Visitors and new members are always welcomed.

OBC MINUTES: The Odebolt Betterment Committee met
July 13, 2010 at 6:00 at City Hall. Present were Elaine, Mary
Jeanne, Madeline, Howard, Phyllis, Jack, Kerry, Deb, Curt, Linda,
Freida, Joel , Shirley Phillips, Duane Veit. Joan arrived later she
had a previous appointment. Duane was here to take a picture of the
committee for the Chronicle.
Madeline called the meeting to order and passed out a copy of the
minutes from last meeting. She gave everyone a minute to read thru
them then asked if there were any corrections or additions to make.
There were none at this time so the minutes stand approved as
printed.
The treasurer report is checking account $21,789.94. Savings for
upkeep of Triangle Park is $300.48.
Howard gave report on progress on Downtown Greenspace Project.
The clock and lights should be here on the 15th of July. Greg
Neville and Grant Thayer will work closely with these companies to
get the job complete. Greg Neville Const. has turned in their final
bill of $14,310.44, which has been paid in full.
It was discussed whether donors who bought benches, lights, or
the table should have their name on the plaque since they would have
their name on the item that they purchased. Linda motioned that they
should only have their name on the item they purchased (single
entry). Mary Jeanne seconded. All ayes. No nays.
In March we received a $1000.00 grant from Trees Please and we
have to match this amount. We have had 2 contributions that equal
$300.00 of this match, so after much discussion Kerry motioned that
we take $700.00 of the Downtown Greenspace Project contributions and
apply it towards the match since this money will be used towards
purchasing trees for this area. Joel seconded. All ayes. No nays.
Kerry mentioned that he would like to see some nice size trees
bought for this area so that it would look nice. Howard stated that
we have $2000.00 to spend on trees so we should spend it and get
some nice mature trees. There was much discussion on which kind and
Frieda and Mary Jeanne volunteered to go around to different tree
businesses and see what was available and get some prices. They will
report back next meeting.
Jack Hogue from Prairie Pedlar has donated time, dirt and plants
for the planters in the Greenspace Project. Next spring we will
purchase some perennials for these planters. Jack also stated that
he would donate the seeding of the grass.
Gary Roth of Gary’s Backhoe has donated the trenching for
electrical. James Pierce of James Body and Glass has donated the
painting of the lights. Pioneer Seed donated the hauling of the
gravel. Howard and Marcia Hustedt donated 3 gallons of paint for
painting the vacant buildings on Main Street. Jerry Gronau has done
the painting and has turned in a bill of $427.50. Deb is to write
him a check for $400.00 the remainder will be his donation to this
project. Greg Neville Construction donated labor and supplies. Scott
Huffman will give the plaque with the donors names on it. Howard
will meet with him after the 15th of July. This date is the deadline
to have your donations turned in if you want your name on the
plaque. It has been published in the paper twice stating this.
Kerry gave report on City Park. At this time we have firmed up
the shelter house and have put new facade boards on. Our future
plans are to maybe have a fund raiser next year to raise money for
the sidewalk by selling cobble bricks with your name engraved in
them. Kerry will talk to Taylor Bengford about landscaping around
the shelter house after the roofing is complete.
Linda gave report on the REAP grant application. Greg Neville has
given her an estimate on this project. The sidewalk will be moved to
the south of the lot because of the entrance into the car wash and
the trucks driving across the sidewalk. Two trees will have to be
removed from the lot for this project. There was talk that maybe a
rain garden would be placed in this area to help with rain runoff.
The deadline for this grant is Aug. 15, Linda has it completed so
she turned it over to Joan. Joan made a copy and gave to Shirley
before she left.
Madeline discussed volunteers to mow and take care of the welcome
signs. She has talked to Vance and he will pay for replacement of
plants and upkeep of signs. At this time Hoefling Lawn Service is
mowing the north and east signs, Thad Diersen is mowing the west
sign and Joel Ahart is mowing the south sign on a volunteer basis.
Linda will check on the west sign, Madeline will check on the north,
Joel will take the south and Tammy, with the help of Elaine and
Joan, will take the east to do volunteer weeding when needed.
Motioned was made by Elaine to weed and maintain the grounds
around the entrance signs, Freida seconded. All ayes. No nays.
Kerry gave report that he and Deb have trimmed around the
dogwoods, nine barks, concolors, and at Larry Schulte’s and at the
triangle park.
The next meeting will be Aug. 10 at 6:00 at City Hall.
(Note: changed to Tuesday, August 3, 2010).

Lundell Plastics Keeps Shaping
Bigger Future
The manufacturing company maintains reputation
as industry innovator
July 13, 2010, Odebolt, IA - Lundell Plastics, an
innovative plastics manufacturing company, continues to build its
place as an esteemed name in agriculture and beyond. Within the last
year, Lundell has manufactured 10 new products. Several months ago,
the company added a 13,000-square-foot expansion to its Odebolt,
Iowa, headquarters in order to accommodate high demand.
Lundell Plastics saw its first major growth with Poly
Cupped Flighting, which has become a standard in the agriculture
industry because it’s durable yet gentle. Now Lundell is expanding
its lineup with 133 additional sizes of existing products.
“We’re glad that we can offer more for our customers,”
said Brian Lundell. “Each new product we unveil is exciting for us,
and we will continue to provide products that meet customer demand.”
Several months ago Lundell introduced FreeFlo
Telescoping Tubes, flexible seed-distribution tools that help
distribute seed to planter boxes. Lundell also unveiled the FreeFlo
Wireless Remote. This compact, weather-proof device allows farmers
to conveniently control the flow of seed without the hassle of wire
snags.
Lundell Plastics also created the QuickHinge, which
attaches the lid to the box on a planter. “We have had great success
with this product,” Lundell said. “Customers really like the fact
that the QuickHinge makes filling the planter with seed much
easier.” Just flip the lid open, fill the box, then snap the lid
shut. Thanks to the QuickHinge, farmers also don’t have to worry
about the lids blowing off during planting.
Lundell Plastics innovations are used in a variety of
applications, including the food and biofuel industries. They
manufacture all of their products at their headquarters in Odebolt,
Iowa, and ship their goods nationally and internationally.
